System questions such as configuring your phone or the system

Are the calls secure

Generally the calls made using ControlYourComms.com are not secure, however if security is a concern we DO have a solution for you.

By using our CYC-SECURE for iOS and Android,, all calls that can be made securely are done so automatically.

The CYC-SECURE software offers the highest commercially available encryption software. From a technical position the CYC-SECURE offers  AES-256 encryption, 80-bit HMAC-SHA1, Elliptic Curve DH P-384 classified NSA Suite B “TOP-SECRET” security level.

The best way to ensure that the calls are secure is for both parties to be using the CYC-SECURE software, that the connection is made via wifi, and that you access the internet and route your traffic through a VPN.

Calls made using the CYC-SECURE software create unique encryption keys for each call, and passes a pass phrase to the called party. By verbally confirming the PassPhrase, the users are assured that no Man in The Middle (MiTM) attack has occurred.

What is a DID

A DID or Direct Inwards Dialled is a virtual phone number that was typically used in businesses as a bank of consecutive numbers, so that you could reach individuals. However with the advent of Voice over IP, the push for “virtual services” and the increase in network bandwidth, virtual phone numbers can now be routed to anywhere in the world to a single or multiple devices. This means that subject to the local requirements, you can have a telephone number from over 500 localities distributed over more than 60 countries, forward directly to your mobile or designated number.

VPN

How do I install software on a router

The steps to install and connect a router to the Virtual Private Network (VPN) permanently can be found HERE.

How does VPN work

There is a good description HERE that can help but in simple terms its easy to think of a tunnel that is set up between two computers, yours and the internet gateway. Anything that travels through the tunnel is encrypted and can’t be seen.

What devices can I use a VPN

You are able to set up VPNs on many devices including your phone or table (iOS, Android and Windows), your computer (Mac, Windows, Linux) as well as certain routers.

If you use a router, then any device that connects to that router is connecting to the internet through the VPN. This is useful to connect to geographically locked material.

What software do I need

Depending on what device you are using will determine which is the best software for your needs.

For the Mac we use gpgptools.org

For iOS we use opengpg.

For Android we use Gnu Privacy Guard

For our routers we use DDWRT, which is the operating system for routers

Where are your servers located

We use and recommend PureVPN as our VPN service provider. A full list of their servers can be found HERE.

You don’t need any other hardware other than the phone that you want the calls to be answered on. Other hardware is available to provide other features and functionality including the CYC-Phone-1a. It is good to have an internet connection to help manage your account.

How do I recharge

You can recharge your account from your dashboard. Simply select TOPUP ACCOUNT from the sidebar and then select how much you would like to add. Note that your account needs to remain in credit to remain active.

Can I check who has called me

There is a comprehensive call data record available in your dashboard. You are able to view the time and caller id (if available) and the duration of the call. You are able to add a number to your contact list or block the number from calling you, all from Call Management in your dashboard.

Can I block callers from calling me

Yes. Should you want to BLOCK a person from reaching you, simply go to your dashboard and select Call Management, find the number you are looking for, select the BLOCK ICON next to the number and they will no longer be able to reach you.

How do I check my balance

Your balance is available from the Dashboard. If you are using our software app on your phone, your available balance should be displayed in the app in the top left corner.

Can I transfer calls between my virtual numbers

If you pre-sign up for our business package then your system will be pre-configured to have the numbers ring as per your required pattern, e.g., simultaneously, in a hunt group or dependant on the time of the day (follow the sun support). If you get a call that needs to be transferred you are able to do this using our smartphone software. If you are using a landline or mobile it will be dependant on your carrier and your mobile device.

Can I have more than one virtual phone number

You are able to have more than one number, in fact there is no limit to the number that you can have that forward to your designated number. If you are running our application you are able to have up to six different accounts, meaning you can dial out of each of the accounts and receive calls in. This way you could allocate a number for sales, one for support and one for admin. These could all ring on the same phone (with a different ringtone in your contacts) or on each of the lines in the application.

If you are a business then we will be putting together a special program to assist you in taking back control of your comms.

Call Management

You have many ways of managing settings for your inbound calls. By default, all inbound calls go through three default states in following order: Ring, Forward, and send to Voicemail. You can further manage your inbound calls by setting up additional Call Forwarding and Call Processing rules HERE.

Account Management

An Account ID is used to clearly identify each element of the service. For example, each external line, extension or fax number, will have its own Account ID. Here you can manage Individual Accounts. For example you can Edit or configurre the Calling Line Identity (helpful when configuring 999 Services), Extensions, SiP Accounts including Nicknames and Passwords and Huntgroups. You can also Edit and switch on or off your Voicemail and Voice Recording settings.

Number Management

Managing your Telephone Numbers from here enables you to dictate up what happens to a call TO a SPECIFIC telephone number of yours. For example “…send all calls received on our Support Desk number, to the Support desk Huntgroup” can be set upHERE.

Do you have encryption keys

If you want to send us email or encrypt your communication with us our encryption keys can be found HERE

Where are your servers located

We use and recommend PureVPN as our VPN service provider. A full list of their servers can be found HERE.
